The incident took place on Friday at the site located near the project's processing plant and mine. In response, K92 Mining has launched a formal inquiry to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal injury. The company confirmed that the worker was supporting road infrastructure tasks when the accident occurred near the Kumian Creek Contractor Camp.
To facilitate the investigation, management has temporarily suspended the specific contractor's activities at the site. This pause allows safety officials and local authorities to conduct a thorough review of the scene and existing safety protocols for surface operations.
Operational Impact and Safety Review
According to the company, the incident is not expected to impact mining or processing schedules. Furthermore, the timelines for ongoing project construction remain unchanged. K92 Mining emphasized that while roadwork is paused, the core extraction and processing units in Papua New Guinea continue to function as planned.
