Tachi-S Profit Holds Steady Amid Revenue Contraction

Tokyo-based automotive seating supplier Tachi-S Co. Ltd. reported a resilient bottom line for the nine months ended December 31, 2024, despite a sharp decline in overall revenue. While sales figures retreated, the company successfully expanded its operating and pretax margins, according to the latest financial filing released under Japanese accounting standards.

Tachi-S Profit Holds Steady Amid Revenue Contraction

Tachi-S saw its group revenue drop to ¥194.75 billion, down from ¥218.15 billion in the corresponding period the previous year. Despite the top-line pressure, the manufacturer demonstrated improved operational efficiency. Operating profit climbed to ¥5.57 billion, surpassing the ¥5.02 billion generated during the same nine-month window in 2024.

Shifting Margins and Bottom-Line Results

The company’s pretax profit surged to ¥7.13 billion, a notable increase from the ¥5.55 billion reported a year earlier. This growth at the pretax level helped offset the broader revenue slump, though net profit remained virtually flat. The firm recorded a net income of ¥5.10 billion, compared to ¥5.14 billion in the prior-year period.

The filing highlighted several key performance indicators for the three quarters:

    • Earnings per share (EPS) reached ¥148.81, down slightly from ¥149.90.
    • Diluted earnings per share were reported at ¥128.19.
    • Total group revenue contracted by approximately 10.7% year-over-year.
While the automotive supplier faced a challenging sales environment, the increase in pretax income suggests a successful mitigation of rising costs or a more favorable product mix. The results reflect the company's performance as it nears the end of its fiscal year in March 2025.
