The new share class utilizes a digital-twin structure, allowing fund ownership to be represented on the blockchain while keeping the underlying portfolio and regulatory protections of the traditional, Ireland-domiciled UCITS fund intact. This move follows the July introduction of a tokenized U.S. dollar liquidity fund, solidifying Aviva’s position among Europe’s primary providers of tokenized money market assets.
Institutional infrastructure for the fund is provided by Komainu and Licuido, with BNY Mellon continuing its role as the custodian for the underlying assets. While the blockchain records ownership, the investment remains rooted in high-grade, short-term debt instruments rather than digital assets like XRP. Mark Versey, CEO of Aviva Investors, noted that the firm views tokenization as a path toward increased operational efficiency and improved client outcomes.
This expansion arrives as major financial players increasingly integrate blockchain into traditional asset management. JPMorgan recently brought money market funds to the Solana network, and firms such as BlackRock and Franklin Templeton have similarly deployed tokenized shares across various blockchains. The development sets the stage for upcoming discussions on institutional adoption at Ripple’s Swell conference in New York.
