Zcash Debuts Zillions Browser Wallet with Ledger Integration

Zcash has launched Zillions, an Anoma-powered browser wallet designed to streamline shielded and transparent transactions for mainstream users. The platform introduces a dual-component architecture, separating the web-based interface from a dedicated keychain extension to manage multiple accounts and hardware-backed security without requiring root device permissions.

The new wallet allows users to create, import, and switch between various Zcash accounts directly within a browser environment, including Chrome, Firefox, and Brave. By utilizing browser sandboxing, the developers aim to eliminate the need for administrative access, ensuring the application operates independently of local file systems. Ledger hardware wallets are supported at launch, with Keystone integration slated for release next week.

Efficiency remains a core focus of the project, which employs client-side multicore transaction proving to accelerate payment speeds. The team reports that its "Shielded Sync" system can synchronize older accounts in under 30 seconds on standard hardware. This focus on performance aligns with recent broader ecosystem initiatives, such as the Zakura cryptography libraries and the upcoming NU7 network upgrade, which aims to reduce block spacing to 25 seconds by early November.
