Carpenter Technology Names Brian Malloy CEO to Succeed Tony Thene

Malloy’s appointment follows a rapid ascent within the company’s executive ranks. Having joined the firm in August 2015, he was named president in October 2023 and added the chief operating officer title just two months later in December. This promotion marks the final step in a leadership handoff designed to maintain stability at the high-performance alloy producer.

A Decade of Strategic Leadership

The outgoing CEO, Tony Thene, has steered the company since July 2015. His tenure saw Carpenter Technology navigate significant shifts in the aerospace and industrial sectors. Thene, who originally joined the organization in January 2013, took over the chairmanship from I. Martin Inglis last year and will continue to oversee board strategy in his new capacity.

The transition comes as Carpenter continues to focus on its core specialty metals business. According to the company's announcement, the move ensures that Malloy, a veteran of the firm’s internal operations, takes the helm with a deep understanding of its technical and commercial objectives.
