The safety action targets two distinct mechanical issues within the popular Rogue lineup. The first involves 318,781 vehicles from the 2024-2025 model years equipped with the 1.5-liter three-cylinder VC-Turbo engine. In these units, gears within the electronic throttle body assembly are prone to breaking, an issue that can lead to unexpected deceleration and increase the risk of a collision.
Simultaneously, the NHTSA identified a secondary risk affecting 323,917 vehicles manufactured between 2023 and 2025. This defect centers on potential bearing failure that could lead to a total loss of drive power. In extreme cases, the regulator warned that a bearing malfunction might breach the engine block, leaking hot oil and creating a substantial fire hazard.
Inspection and Software Remedies
To address these safety concerns, Nissan dealers will perform a series of diagnostic tests and software updates at no cost to owners. For throttle-related issues, technicians will reprogram onboard software and replace faulty components where necessary. For the broader engine failure risk, the remedy involves updating the engine control module and conducting road tests to identify underlying trouble codes.
The recall highlights ongoing scrutiny of Nissan’s variable-compression turbocharged engines. While the manufacturer has not reported specific injury data related to these faults, the NHTSA maintains that the combination of throttle instability and fire risks necessitates immediate corrective action to ensure driver safety.
