The collaboration targets the growing demand for on-site intelligence in environments where data latency often hinders decision-making. Qualcomm will provide the hardware foundations for edge computing, while SLB applies its Internet of Things expertise to tailor these systems for the specific, rugged requirements of energy extraction and distribution sites.
Rakesh Jaggi, president of digital at SLB, noted that the initiative focuses on creating workflows that remain consistent even in isolated or demanding operational settings. By shifting AI processing closer to the hardware, the companies expect to facilitate more autonomous maintenance and diagnostic capabilities throughout the energy sector.
