Greif Announces Price Hikes for Paperboard and Protective Packaging

Persistent inflationary pressure and rising transportation expenses are forcing Greif to adjust its pricing strategy. The packaging manufacturer confirmed it will implement increases across its uncoated recycled paperboard and protective product lines throughout July, citing both shifting demand and the escalating cost of raw material inputs.

Greif Announces Price Hikes for Paperboard and Protective Packaging

The company will raise prices by $60 per short ton for all grades of uncoated recycled paperboard, effective for new orders and shipments starting July 6. Simultaneously, Greif is applying a minimum 6.5% surcharge to its tube, core, and protective-packaging portfolio, with those adjustments taking effect on July 13.

Management linked the decision to higher operational overheads, though the firm also noted a distinct uptick in demand for recycled paperboard products. These hikes arrive as broader U.S. economic indicators show year-over-year inflation reaching 4.2% in May, a three-year peak driven largely by surging energy costs.
