According to federal regulators, the issue stems from a canister purge valve that can malfunction, potentially cutting engine power while the vehicle is being driven. This follow-up action aims to correct the shortcomings of the initial 18V735 recall effort.

To resolve the hazard, Ford dealerships are instructed to update the powertrain control module software for affected owners. This service will be provided at no cost, as the manufacturer attempts to rectify the faulty repairs that left a quarter-million vehicles vulnerable to engine failure.
