Hokuetsu Metal Swings to Nine-Month Loss as Revenue Declines

Hokuetsu Metal Co. Ltd. reported a net loss of ¥116 million for the nine months ended Dec. 31, a sharp reversal from the profit recorded during the same period last year. The Japanese steel producer faced a significant contraction in revenue, reflecting a cooling in demand for industrial metal products.

Hokuetsu Metal Swings to Nine-Month Loss as Revenue Declines

The company’s revenue fell to ¥18.34 billion for the three quarters, down from ¥22.64 billion in the prior-year period. This decline directly impacted the bottom line, shifting the firm from a robust profit to an operating deficit. According to the financial statement, Hokuetsu Metal recorded an operating loss of ¥181 million, compared to an operating profit of ¥562 million a year ago.

Financial Performance Metrics

The downturn extended to pretax figures, where the company reported a loss of ¥84 million. This stands in contrast to the ¥664 million pretax profit seen in 2024. On a per-share basis, the company saw a loss of ¥30.11, a significant drop from the earnings of ¥109.15 per share reported previously.

The results, which are based on Japanese accounting standards, underscore the volatility currently facing the regional manufacturing sector. Despite the revenue slump, the company continues to navigate a shifting landscape for metal production and industrial supply chains.
