EPA Approval Clears Way for Bayer to Launch Stryax Herbicide

Bayer AG is set to introduce its new Stryax herbicide across the United States after the Environmental Protection Agency registered low-volatility dicamba formulations in 34 states. The decision allows the German agricultural giant to roll out the restricted-use pesticide specifically designed to combat resistant weeds in soybean and cotton crops.

EPA Approval Clears Way for Bayer to Launch Stryax Herbicide

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has registered low-volatility dicamba formulations in 34 states, clearing the path for Bayer to launch its Stryax herbicide. The German conglomerate plans to immediately seek individual state approvals to bring the restricted-use pesticide to market. Ty Witten, head of commercial stewardship at Bayer Crop Science, noted that the product is designed to address the rising pressure of glyphosate-resistant broadleaf weeds.

Application and Residual Control

Stryax is optimized for integration with Bayer’s proprietary seed traits, including XtendFlex soybeans, Roundup Ready 2 Xtend soybeans, and XtendFlex cotton. The herbicide provides up to 14 days of soil activity against specific weed species, a feature intended to reduce the need for multiple passes and keep fields clean during critical growth windows.

The federal registration defines strict operational parameters for the chemical's use. According to the company, the approval allows for application in XtendFlex cotton up to seven days pre-harvest and through the R1 growth stage in XtendFlex soybeans. This regulatory clearance provides growers with a new chemical rotation option as they navigate evolving resistance in domestic agriculture.
