The agreement grants Roche exclusive rights to develop and market ZW209 following an initial phase 1a monotherapy trial conducted by Zymeworks. While Roche assumes the financial burden for this trial and subsequent global commercialization, Zymeworks remains positioned to capture substantial long-term gains. Beyond the initial $55 million, the company stands to receive a $40 million milestone payment upon the initiation of a phase 1b study. Total potential commercial and sales-based milestones reach $718 million, bolstered by tiered royalties on future net sales.
Adam Schayowitz, head of R&D at Zymeworks, noted that the partnership leverages Roche’s infrastructure to accelerate the drug's path through clinical settings while distributing development risks. Following the announcement, investor confidence pushed Zymeworks shares up 4.3% to $29.65 in premarket trading.
