Airtm Taps Mastercard’s BVNK to Bridge Digital Wallets and Retail

By integrating Mastercard’s BVNK infrastructure, Airtm aims to let users in emerging markets spend digital dollars directly at retail merchants. The partnership, slated for a Q4 2026 rollout, leverages the Stellar blockchain to bypass traditional payment bottlenecks, allowing users to move funds natively on-chain without converting to fiat first.

The collaboration centers on Airtm Connect, a new platform designed to link digital asset services with Airtm’s existing user base. By tapping into Mastercard’s Global Money Platform, Airtm gains a wider array of tools for handling international transfers, stablecoin settlements, and multicurrency accounts. This move is intended to simplify how customers in regions with limited banking access engage with the global economy, providing a seamless transition between holding digital assets and making everyday purchases.

Stellar will serve as the underlying settlement layer, building on BVNK’s existing integration with the network. According to Airtm CEO Rubén Galindo Steckel, the company’s infrastructure strategy remains focused on providing diverse funding and spending options rather than relying on a single provider. While the specific stablecoins supported at launch remain undisclosed, the integration aims to reduce the friction customers currently face when moving money between digital wallets and conventional retail payment systems.
